Military investigates use of alternative treatment device for sleep apnea

Sleep apnea is a breathing disorder in which one stops breathing for 10 seconds or more during sleep, often repeatedly. The result may be choking noises or loud snoring during sleep, as well as extreme sleepiness during the day, which can decrease the ability to perform certain tasks. The military recently investigated the use of a custom-fabricated oral appliance therapy device determined the device can significantly improve sleep quality and duration of some individuals.
