Army Reserve surgeon answers call, helps healthcare recruiters tackle physician shortages

U.S. Army Reserve Col. Paul Phillips III (far right), orthopedic surgeon and chief of Professional Services with the 228th Combat Support Hospital at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, is shown here during a deployment to Haiti in 2011. Phillips practices medicine full time as part of the Orthopedic Surgery team at Hill Country Memorial Medical Group in Fredericksburg, Texas, and the 23-year military veteran is now a consultant to the U.S. Army Surgeon General, a role in which he’s helping recruit orthopedic surgeons into the reserves.
